De la hoya has had the biggest fights in boxing history, all of which he has lost or has been screwed over by the decision. First the "Fight of the Millenium" with De la hoya fighting trinidad, de la hoya landed 140 more punches, and alot of press row had him winning. He lost, another huge fight against shane mosley he lost another split decision which i believe and many other experts thought it was close and oscar won, he lost. Thier second fight, he landed 100 more punches and he got screwed again. And the latest robbery was against floyd, i thought it was close and i would give the edge to floyd, but after watching it again de la hoya made the fight and took it to floyd, and he lost?Larry merchant said they should give the fight to the agressor, del ahoya. HE lost again, many are looking for the one signature win of his career and after all those decisions, and how good he fought the best he is a great fighter in my opinion, and 1 more shot at floyd could make more believers.

  1. okay Ive swayed a bit on De La Hoya in my opinion he is a very good boxer and a great businessman. He never has beaten a top contender(not talking about shoulda coulda woulda won) but he is a great figure in boxing not fighter if you fight De La Hoya you are insured a great pay-day and you re right he never did back down which made him that great businessman because he won respect of boxing fans.

Just an FYI Floyd vs De la Hoya will be just as painful as the first.

  2. De la hoya is a great fighter, but please the person below dont suggest Chavez was in great shape,he was at least 4 yrs past his fighter brilliance, even De la Hoya to his credit said so!

  3. he is the best but the worst is floyd mayweather

  4. Good question!

In my opinion de LaHoya was one of the best "Boxers" in his time.  The only reason I put it in past tense is because all the conditions are diferent now, from his focus taken away from Oscar after his position as a promoter to his personal priorities in life.  I am Puertorrican and a big Tito's fan, but I am fair too and love to keep scores of boxing matches,  I have seen that fight over 10 times and Oscar should have won that fight by unanimous decision.  (Don king had a lot to do on that one).

His fight against Mayweather was good but not good enough  You got to remember that if you are going to beat the new champ you have to really F*** him up, or knock him out to take not only his belt but all the money behind him.  So based on that I could say it was a little close, but you aint beating him with a few good jabs and moving forward.

My personal opinion is that yes he was a great boxer, but I think he should have ensured that he had a rematch clause when he fought against Felix Trinidad back in the day because yeah he knew he could beat Tito, but he didn't considered the King's pull on the judges and without that clause Tito was not going to risk it again against Oscar, although I still think they will meat for the money some day, you can garantee that one!

Troy, he did beat the legend Julio Cesar Chaves, and he was still in good shape when he did.

  5. Unfortunately there is a bit of bias towards de la hoya for whatever reason who knows. But Floyd won the fight when pedaling backwards all 12 rounds, Oscar lost the fight vs Trinidad for back pedaling the last 4 rounds. Also lost against Mosley for whatever reason the judges deem the results. Given the fight vs Felix strum I still think Oscar won. he was the busiest boxer. the German guy looked stronger.

Most Mexican boxer have to win by KO, otherwise they would never win here in the USA.

  6. troy d--he also beat sweat pea, who was the Floyd Mayweather jr. of his day.

  7. I agree with you on the mayweather fight de la hoya was the better fighter but due to the way boxing is scored they gave it to floyd based on just plain boxing skill

  8. He is a good fighter but will never be considered a great  fighter based on his skills. His name is bigger then his skill level, he was made into a supers star because he was a good looking gold medalist that was able to cross the racial lines.

That is his biggest attribute, he has crossed the line into a movie star/celebrity status. He gets $250K just for speaking engagements, thats how big of a star he is.

He has lost 3 of his last 5 fights and should have been 4 of his last 5 but they gave him the Sturm fight, not to mention the gift he got over Pernal. He has a good left hand because he is a natural lefty but his right hand isn't very good as far as pop goes.

He is good for boxing, he makes money for everyone but not because he is such a good boxer but because he is a super star. His promotional company would go out of business if he wasn't around...
