Oscar Freire ready for Vuelta and is looking to renew his contract for London Olympics
Spanish cyclist Oscar Freire whose contract with team Rabobank is finishing at the end of this year has shown interest about riding in the 2012 London Olympics.
Freire did not participated in the Tour de France, 2011 as he believes that it is one of the “most boring” Tours of the year. Oscar has managed to win four Tour de France stages throughout his career followed by a green jersey in 2008 showed no interest
in the most prestigious race of the year as he was focusing on the Vuelta a Espana.
Freire believes that he is well placed before the Vuelta as he did not raced in the Tour de France and is fresher than other cyclists who have. He also added that most of the stages in Vuelta a Espana suits him as well.
The 35-year-old who has before pointed out about his retirement from the sport by the end of season now seems interested in riding for some more time as he told the media that he is currently negotiating with team Rabobank about the renewal of contract.
Cyclist also mentioned that other teams have shown interest in him and are interested in signing him in a one year contract.
Freire’s brother Antonio told the media that, “We are negotiating with Rabobank to renew for next year, but there is still nothing sorted. Moreover, if things do not work out with Rabobank there is the possibility that I will sign with another team.”
Negotiations will be completed before August 20 and Freire will be representing Rabobank if he signs the contract.
Cyclist went through a sinus operation in June and suggested that he has regained his health and is fit to race in Vuelta a Espana. He said that the reason for his bad performance last year especially at Vuelta a Espana, 2010 is because he was operated for
sinus issues but he has fully recovered this year and is hopeful to pull off some good performance in the coming mega tour in Spain.
