Oscar Gonzalez, Mario Briones to clash for vacant WBC international super bantamweight gold
The city of Tijuana will again feel the charm of professional boxing since Box Latino along with Televisa, Everlast and other affluent promoters have organised a Saturday night extravaganza by the name ‘Sangre y Patria’ which will be headlined by the clash
between Oscar ‘Finito’ Gonzalez and Mario ‘Maka’ Briones.
Tijuana situated in Mexico is the hometown of Mexico’s legendary brawler Erik Morales and this is the first time since December 2011 that a multi bout pay-per-view is being setup by his organisation in collaboration with others. Televisa has taken the responsibility
of televising the event live in its weekly boxing program Sabados de Corona.
Sangre y Patria which means ‘Blood and Country’ will consist of a clash between Oscar Gonzalez and Mario Briones who will try to nail each other in order to grab the vacant WBC International super bantamweight gold.
The main event will be followed by a co-main event bout between Javier ‘Cobra’ Mendoza and Armando ‘Chiquita’ Vazquez in which the former will defend his WBC Continental Americas light flyweight title for the second consecutive time.
The event which will take place on Saturday February 11, 2012 also consists of super flyweight bout between Ivan ‘Niño Maravilla’ Morales and Ricardo ‘Rocky’ Armenta. The non-title bout will only have Ivan’s undefeated and invincible streak on the line.
Jose ‘Hollywood’ Estrella will exchange his fists against Pedro ‘Guerrero’ Melo in a clash that consists of six rounds. The Jose-Pedro encounter will also take place in the super flyweight division.
The event will also experience two lightweights Mario ‘Popeye’ Padilla and Osvaldo ‘Waldo’ Castro and one welterweight Javier ‘Pelon’ Gomez in action. The squared ring will be setup in Tijuana Municipal Auditorium known as ‘Fausto Gutierrez Moreno’. The
important bouts to witness will be the one with championships on the line.
Oscar Gonzalez will try his level best to win the WBC International super bantamweight but Mario will give him a strenuous tough time since he has a clear upper hand as far as the experience is concerned. Mario has been in a total 23 bouts and has collected
21 wins and lost just one. In addition to experience he also has a good knockout percentage and ability that supersedes Oscar’s 60 percent KO ratio by 5 percent.
Oscar has collected nine out of 14 wins by knock out whereas Mario has secured 15 wins by knock out. A clear advantage of both experience and knock out proficiency might subjugate Oscar.
It must be kept in mind that the odds are in complete favour of Mario since he has won WBC FECOMBOX super bantamweight title. Oscar on the other hand is the proud three-time recipient of WBC youth world super bantamweight title. The clash will be tough and
will decide who the proud owner of the vacant gold is.
