Oscar Pujol hopeful to find a new home for the 2013 season
The 2012 season has almost concluded and most of the cyclists have chosen their future homes, while Oscar Pujol finds himself jobless for the second consecutive season.
After riding with the Amateur side, Team Burgos Monumental in 2008, he managed to secure a two-year deal with Cervelo Test Team for 2009-10 seasons.
He rode with Team Omega Pharma-Lotto for 2011 season and was picked up by the Iranian outfit, Azad University Cross Team for the 2012 season.
The Spaniard could not really perform to his abilities and failed to prove his talents in the current season as his only commendable performance of the season include a stage and an overall victory at the Tour de Singkarak 2012.
However, the cyclist claims that the team never gave him enough chances to prove himself in the season.
Pujol noted that despite his good form, he was only sent to three races in Azerbaijan, Singkarak and Qinghai Lake.
The cyclist briefed that he trained so hard to be in such peak form and performance even at the three races that he rode, he finished sixth overall at the Azerbaijan and finished third at the most difficult mountain-top stage of the race.
After riding at the top level of the sport for three year, it is definitely a dilemma for the 28-year-old that he has spent the past 18 months just to secure a spot a big European team.
"Cervélo wanted to keep me but then it was over at the end of 2010. I found Omega Pharma and had a two-year contract but my year wasn’t very good in 2011,” he told Cyclingnews.
“I didn’t do a lot of things right and I was struggling with illness. I kept racing but I should have taken a break".
"I was training with Jurgen Van Den Broek at altitude to ride the Tour de France but I wasn’t in good enough shape and just a week before the Vuelta a España, when I was in the team, I was told I wouldn’t be going”.
Only time will tell, if Oscar manages to continue his passion and all he is wants an opportunity to prove his worth at the top level of the sport.
