Oscar Pujol to represent The Azad University Cross Team for the 2012 season
Spanish Professional cyclist Oscar Pujol has penned a deal with the Iranian Continental team for the coming season.
He was amongst the only few cyclists left team-less after his former side Team Omega Pharma split up by the end of 2011 season.
Most of the top cyclists were given contracts but Oscar was amongst the few less known domestiques who suffered the most.
The cyclist had the contract with the team throughout 2012 but was unfortunate as the team’s management was taken and many of the riders were left team-less.
Oscar has finally decided to represent the Iranian Continental side, The Azad University Cross Team for the 2012 season after he failed to make room at any European side.
He briefed, "At my age, you can't live on memories. You have to look to the future and my future now includes experiencing this new cycling”.
“I will have a good calendar in this team, different to the one I've had these past years. I think I can still learn a lot".
The 28-year-old was last seen in action with Team Omega Pharma-Lotto during the Gp Montreal where he helped the team leader with his strong support during the race.
Pujol was disappointed after he struggled to make it through to any European team for the 2012 season.
He told Cyclingnews during an interview earlier in January, 2012, “Things are a little complicated because I don’t have a team for this year but I’m still training normally and I’m still motivated”.
“If I get an opportunity I want to be as strong as I can, so it’s important keep my head up and still work with the same attitude as before”.
Oscar started his 2012 pursuit with Cervelo Test Team in 2009 and helped the side with his domestique abilities throughout the 2009-10 seasons.
He accepted an offer from the Belgian side Team Lotto-Belisol in 2011 and was left out by the team for the 2012 season.
The Spaniard is now optimistic to make his presence felt at the Azad University Cross Team and will implement all his international experience to help his new team in the remaining part of the season.
The Azad University Cross Team includes a total number of 15 riders on its list including three Columbians, eight Iranians, one Malaysian and two Spaniards (including Pujol).
Oscar’s first race will be the Tour of Azerbaijan scheduled from May 11-16 and might also try his luck at the Tour of Japan.
