Oscar Whisky ready for big run at Cheltenham – Horseracing Update
The talented black gelding, Oscar Whisky, is all set to have a big show against Big Buck’s at in Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham on March 15.
Capitalising on the form given by his magnificent victory on the first day of 2012, the star runner is going to demonstrate his credentials next month.
In 3m Grade 1 race, Oscar Whisky will run against 33 opponents including some big names. This is being regarded as a rip-roaring competition which will draw huge bankroll.
Though almost all of his 33 competitors are strong but Oscar Whisky’s real challenge will be Big Buck’s whom he is supposed to beat.
Earlier this month, the seven-year-old horse was due to run in the Welsh Champion Hurdle but the race was called off at the eleventh hour due to bad weather.
Before going to Cheltenham Festival, Oscar Whisky has the option of National Spirit Hurdle of February 26 available to him to test his preparation but his owner, Walters Plant Hire Ltd, is not likely to enter him in this contest.
While speaking to the media, Walters said, “It was disappointing the meeting had to be abandoned the other day. The reason we decided to have the Welsh Champion Hurdle in February was because it was a good stepping stone to Cheltenham.”
He further told, "I've spoken to Nicky about where we could run Oscar Whisky. There is the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell (February 26), but that is probably too close to Cheltenham. I think there's every chance he'll go straight to Cheltenham now and
run in the three-mile race."
Owned by Walters Plant Hire Ltd, the young horse has won 10 out of his 13 starts so far. His triumphs include 3 NHF and 7 Hurdle. The gelding is honoured to have won the first four races of his career in a row. His total earning to date is £220,762.
Oscar Whisky is the second top favourite runner for March’s high-profile event. If he manages to tackle Big Buck’s well, he will surely be able to bag his second victory of 2012. The race will begin at 3:20.
