Oscars Goodbye in the limelight of the Romford Puppy Cup
Romford staged six exciting heats of the Puppy Cup over 400 metres on Monday night, 17th September. The very first heat unconsciously laid the foundations of the bench mark speed that had to be over taken in order to strike the shortest possible
time and was something that never happened, 24.22 seconds of the opening heat remained to be the least time took for reaching the wire.
J. W. Reynolds trained two-year-old, Oscars Goodbye, was the favourite entry of the initial heat, and then became the most popular throughout the heats after impressing the crowds with his roaring speed.
Probably the least favoured in the market, Ace Hi Rumble’s son raced against his odds. Racing from the fourth trap, the blue dog was smart to draw away from the rest of the competition, raced by the rail and then refused to give away the lead to any other
hound in the field.
He enjoyed the lead that could not get threatened by any of the other contestants.
Missing the chance by 2 ½ lengths was the P. Mosdall trained, Gurtmullen Penny.
The next heat had Fahy Pine dominating the field and sealing the race in 24.33 seconds. The early pace and the rails’ end suited her once she took off from the second trap.
The favourite entry, Glanmire Lad, settled as the runner-up.
The favourite entry for the third heat of the contest was, Jaytee Youngy, ended fourth while the race was landed by the D. H. Brighton trained, Bens Angel, who raced across the wire in 24.38 seconds.
Blackrose Mia bagged the £175 prize money of the fourth heat by completing the 400 metres trip in 24.54 seconds. Despite getting bumped when she was racing in the first spot, the two-year-old remerged and bulleted away.
Chris Allsopp trained, Express Rover, took charge of the fifth heat of the contest, reaching the other end of the wire in 24.24 seconds.
The prize money of the last and final heat went E. J. Cantillon trained, Blackrose Eve, who took 24.34 seconds to prove herself.
The three semi-finals of the Puppy Cup are scheduled for 21st September.
