Oscars Well all set for the step up in distance
The seven-year-old bay/brown gelding, Oscars Well, was initially successful in the flat racing and did not take very long to prevail in the fences arena too. The only outing that the Mrs. John Harrington trained could not handle was the most recent outing.
Analyzing his form that fell short only against Arvika Ligeonniere, the trainer has decided to step up the seven-year-old in the distance.
Oscars’ gelding landed the Book New Years Eve Panoramic Restaurant Beginners Chase on 31st October, 2012 at Leopardstown over two miles.
The favourite entry partnered the event with jockey, Robbie Power, and the duo defeated Darwins Fox by twelve lengths.
The Irish bay/brown gelding then extracted a success story from the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Novice Chase on 8th December, 2012 at Navan race course over two miles and a furlong.
The favourite entry then defeated Cootamundra by seven lengths while racing in the same combination as before.
Oscars Well’s most recent outing was in the Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase on 26th December, 2012 at Leopardstown over two miles and a furlong.
He had to compromise with the favourism and success due to the Willie Mullins’ trained, Arvika Ligeonniere. The favourite entry set Oscars Well as the runner-up by monopolising the final 2 ½ lengths of the race.
"I was very happy with him and he has come out of the race fine," said Harrington.
"We'll probably look to step him up in trip now and he'll probably run in the Moriarty next. He could then go for the Jewson (Novices' Chase) at Cheltenham, or we could miss Cheltenham altogether and run in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse."
All confident and convinced about the ability of the under charge, trainer, Mrs. John Harrington has picked up for him the two-mile-five-furlong test in the form of the Dr. P. J. Moriarty Novice Chase that will be held at Leopardstown in February.
The trainer has no doubts whatsoever about the stamina of the seven-year-old bay/brown gelding.
Besides the step up in distance, the set of competition of course will be different too, so how far do the claims of the trainer stay intact will take nearly a month to unfold.
