Oskar Svendsen wins the Junior Men Time Trial Event in Holland
Norwegian cyclist Oskar Svendsen won the 26.6 kilometre Junior Men Time Trial event in Holland yesterday.
The cyclist crossed the finish-line in a quickest time of 35 minutes and 34 seconds and bagged an important victory.
Matej Mohoric of Team Slovenia finished 7 seconds behind at the second position with Maximilian Schachmann, Alexander Morgan and Mathias Krigbaum claimed the third, fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
“I had high hopes for the top ten. I did the Europeans and was 11th and I was sick this week. I could never imagine winning,” Svendsen said at the finish.
“The race went well from the start. I tried to save some of my power for the hills and for the last 10 kilometres I left everything I had out there”.
“I knew I could do a good time trial as my level has been high recently,” Mohoric said.
“I was very excited about the race and the time trial. When I came to the last two climbs I still had something left in the tank and I went hard,” he added.
Schachmann rode brilliantly throughout the race and was looking good for the top spot but was unfortunately caught up in a mechanical issue in the final kilometre and had to settle for the third position.
Nathan Van Hooydonck was impressive for his sixth spot as he as he was accompanied by his compatriot Brent Luyckx at the seventh position with a difference of one second amongst them.
