Osleni Guerrero beats Ilian Perez to win Men’s Singles crown at Venezuela Open Internacional 2012
Cuba’s Osleni Guerrero lived up to the expectations as he won the Men’s Singles crown after beating Ilian Perez of USA in the final encounter of Venezuela Open Internacional 2012 in Venezuela, on Sunday, September 2.
The higher ranked Osleni, who was the top seed in Men’s Singles draw in the championship, had to work extra hard as he employed all of his skills to overpower his talented opponent in a nail-biting three-set contest.
The top seeded Osleni played good badminton and secured the opening set but failed to live up to expectations in the following game and lost it.
However, the aggressive Cuban shuttler put up strong show in the deciding game and eventually won the match with a reasonable margin.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Ilian delivered a staggering performance but he remained unlucky as his higher ranked rival played better badminton in the final set and took the match with a decent difference on the board.
The opening set of this title match was mouth-watering when both shuttlers displayed their tremendous skills on court and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the top seeded Cuban player geared up his speed and managed to win the set with a reasonable 21-17 score on the board.
The following set was completely different when the USA shuttler put up superb show of aggressive play and managed a reasonable gap on score board until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Osleni played to his maximum potential but failed to control the pace of rallies and lost the set with a 17-21 score on the board.
In the decider, Osleni played controlled game from opening points and remained ahead on score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Osleni stretched his lead by playing attacking badminton. He manipulated all loopholes of Ilian and managed to finish off the final set with a comfortable 21-15 score on the board.
The in-form Osleni emerged as the winner of crown as he overpowered his rival in the final battle with a decent margin of 21-17, 17-21 and 21-15.
