Men’s Singles shuttler Osleni Guerrero of Cuba lived up to expectations and trounced Ilian Perez in the final round of the Venezuela Open Internacional on Sunday, September 2, 2012.
This title match was played at local badminton arena of Maracay in Venezuela and both contenders kept the audience intact while piling up final result of 21-17, 17-21 and 21-15.
Osleni Guerrero, who was the top ranked player of this tournament, proved his dominance in the opening and ending segments of the showdown as he locked the honour.
The US campaigner was no comparison to his higher ranked opponent and fell flat on his face after receiving a severe blow of 1-2 defeat.
In the opening game of the match, the Cuban shuttler started the ball rolling by prevailing in the opening rallies without any interruption.
He mounted pressure with this early advantage and then magnified the impact by adding a couple of consecutive points in his total.
Ilian Perez could not withstand this intensive attack and stayed grounded all the way to mid-game break.
On the other hand, Osleni made the best out of his dominating position and placed a mountainous figure of 11 at half time.
Later part of the game saw him making some mistakes which allowed his challenger to narrow the gap but Osleni struck hard when it mattered and snatched the first match point with an overwhelming margin of 21-17.
The second set was a replay of the previous one but in a reverse manner as this time the US shuttler showed a transformed character and brought life back into the contest.
Ilian Perez, who was an underdog earlier in this tournament, did not show any sign of bewilderment after his first set loss.
He played with great precision and stunned his competitor with an impressive backlash. He started making progress immediately in the beginning and maintained this pace until last shot was played.
Ilian Perez bagged first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11 and then emerged as victor with a favourable figure of 21-17.
However, he could not go with the same flow in the decider as the Cuban player blew him away with a staggering knock of 21-17 and claimed the Men’s Singles crown in the Venezuela Open Internacional.
