Ospreys’ scrum half Rhys Webb believes he will be fit before start of 2011/12 season – Rugby news
Welsh rugby union club Ospreys’ injured scrum half, Rhys Webb, has expressed his confidence in attaining full fitness before the start of the 2011/12 Rabodirect Pro 12 season. Webb is currently going through rehabilitation following minor surgery on his shoulder in May.
Webb made the comments in an interview to the Ospreys’ official website on Monday, July 18.
The 22-year-old Webb has expressed his satisfaction with the progress of his rehabilitation and conditioning. He has thanked the Ospreys’ medical team and conditioning coaches for their efforts, care and unwavering support.
Providing the details, Webb said, “The shoulder is feeling 100 per cent again which is good, I'm getting some strength back there.” Webb added that the team’s physiotherapists and fitness coaches are working hard with him to ensure his return to the field for the Ospreys’ pre-season warm up matches.
Webb said, “I'm doubling up really, getting the rehab in and trying to ensure I don't miss out on pre-season work but it'll be worth the effort to be able to be involved on the opening weekend. Fingers crossed, I'm on target for that which is great news.”
Bridgend born Webb started his rugby career with the hometown club of Bridgend RFC. In 2007, he joined the Ospreys development set-up. He has played for the Wales national rugby union team at Under-18s, Under-19s and Under-20s level.
In the 2010/11 Magners League, Webb has impressed many with his impressive ball handling, tackling and game reading skills as he played 21 games for the Ospreys in last season. Out of the 21, he started the game on 18 occasions.
Webb so far has made 40 appearances for Ospreys in different domestic and European competitions. However, with the arrival of the Crusaders and Samoa international scrum-half Kahn Fotuali'I next season, Webb will face tough competition to cement his position in the playing xv. Kahn Fotuali'i will join the Ospreys, after the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Webb further added that at the moment he is only concentrating to get game fit so that he can help the team deliver good performances.
