Ospreys sign the young duo of Emyr Williams and Mathew Morgan to a three-year deal
Swansea based Welsh Rugby Union club, Ospreys, has signed the young and talented duo of Emyr Williams and Mathew Morgan. Officials at the club have confirmed the signing of the duo on a long-term deal in a statement released on their website on Friday, August
19.
The pair of Williams and Morgan has signed a three-year deal with the Ospreys. The contract will allow the young players to further develop their skills and to gain exposure of playing highly competitive rugby in both domestic and European competition.
Ospreys Chief Operations Officer, Andrew h**e, has congratulated the player Williams and Morgan on signing the first professional deals in their career. He further expressed his confidence that they will work hard to make most of the opportunity.
h**e added, “Securing a first professional contract is a big moment for any young rugby player, and it's no different for these two. There is a lot of hard work ahead of them if they are going to fulfill their obvious potential.”
The 18-year-old Williams is a versatile back row forwards player. He has already played rugby with the amateur outfit, Abercrave. Later he joined the Ospreys at the Under-18s level. Williams has expressed his delight on signing his first professional deal.
He has also stated his desire to work hard to become a permanent member of the Ospreys senior side.
Reading born Morgan plays at the fly half position and has already made his debut for the Ospreys senior side. He plays at the fly half position and so far has made five appearances for the Ospreys in both domestic and European competitions.
Bridgend Athletic product Morgan made his debut for Ospreys against Newcastle Falcons during the 2010 Anglo Welsh Cup. He has scored 42 points for the Ospreys which consist of a try, two conversions, a drop goal and 10 penalties. Morgan is currently playing
for St Helens and he will join the Ospreys at the start of the 2011/12 season.
Commenting on the occasion, h**e reiterated the club’s effort and vision to develop young players and then retaining them to develop the players’ talent pool for the long-term survival of the club. h**e added, “The working relationship we have with Bridgend
and Swansea will ensure that young players gain a real understanding of the Osprey style of play.”
h**e further commented, “As a region we are justifiably proud of our reputation for player development, and these two are in an environment where they will get the best support and coaching to enable them to progress.”
