Ospreys tame Biarritz by 28-21 in Heineken Cup Pool 5 match - Rugby News
Ospreys trounced the rusty Biarritz side by decent margin of 28-21 in the Heineken Cup 2011, on Saturday November 12, at Swansea. Both sides played with an improved plan in the second half and produced some thrilling performances. Ospreys led by 6-3 at the
end of the first part of the match which was also a patience testing time for the spectators. Dan Biggar displayed a one man show for Ospreys as he scored 23 points for his team.
The match started at a snails’ pace as both side looked struggled to control the ball. Biarritz started off the game nicely as Damien Traille kicked a penalty goal for his team in the fourth minute but later on they lost the momentum and looked off colour.
They could not add a single point to their total before the half time and thus paved the way for the opening victory.
Ospreys also struggled in the first half but managed to hold things back after the break. Dan Biggar had done a great job with his boots to thump their rivals by a handsome margin. He scored four penalties, one conversion and one try in the short span of
27 minutes after the interval. Damien Traille tried to surpass the efforts of Biggar with four drop goals but failed.
The Biarritz side had real chances to overcome the Ospreys in the second half but rock solid defence from their rivals denied them any such move. Marcelo Bosch and Damien Traille shared 20 points with the help of brilliant foot work in the match. Iain Blashlaw
scored two tries for Biarritz and gave hope for a maiden victory which ended in a fiasco due to the great work of Ospreys. Ospreys will take on Benetton Treviso in their next clash of Heineken Cup on November 19.
