Ospreys win against Jacksonville Dolphins in sand volleyball match – Volleyball news
Under the leadership of head coach Steve Loeswick, the University of North Florida (NFU) women’s sand volleyball team bagged a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville Dolphins in front of their home supporters.
The Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex hosted the match on Friday, April 6.
The hosts got off to nice start in the match as they clinched success in the first flight. The JU duo of K. Courtney/C. Whitmire (JU) came into stride with UNF’s D. Medina and E. Strack. The Dolphins made good use of their hands and poked the ball in gaps.
The Ospreys spent some time to settle down in their positions and tried to grasp the game plan of opponents. The first set was sort of like see-saw battle but JU claimed better status by sending 21-19 on board. The visiting pair counter attacked in the following
set and hit the equaliser with 21-11 win.
However, the home tandem captured the decisive third set (15-10) and settled for 2-1 win.
The second duo of UNF, which was composed of J. Trembley and C. Jenkins, worked out a better performance in the next session. They finished the flight in straight sets and levelled the game score at 1-1. The set scores were 21-17 and 21-16. The Jacksonville
team was represented by N. Cullen/S. Strausburg in the second match.
The match entered third session, while No. 3 duos from both sides appeared on the sand court. The pairing of B. Claessens and A. Budinska played with the tag of Ospreys, while Jacksonville had A. Robertson/K Kane in the contest. The former duo proved to
be better in third session and sent the home team to another loss.
UNF pair jumped out of the gate and promptly hit powerful shots. Both players traded placed with each other and showed some extreme digging and diving on the sand. With better combination of attack and defence, they posted 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) victory over
JU.
The hosts created a bit of spark on the sand in the fourth flight. N. Teplitz and Chelsea of Jacksonville put up spirited effort to lead their team to second win of the match. They faced off UNF’s N. Baran and A. Shirley in straight sets. The second set
of the match was tight but Dolphins managed to sustain the pressure and pulled off success. The visiting duo received 0-2 (17-21, 20-22) defeat.
All eyes were set on the decisive fifth session of the match. Eventually, UNF emerged as better team as P. Pridgeon and C. McGuire breezed past J. Orner/A. Loeppky of JU in two sets, 2-0 (21-16, 21-19).
In the next run, the Ospreys of North Florida are set to take part in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament at JU's Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex. The three-day campaign will be attended by different other teams, while Ospreys will try to maintain their
supremacy in the game.
