Osvaldo Bisbal: There is no need to penalise Luis Lazarte and IBF has no right to interfere – Boxing news
Osvaldo Bisbal, President Argentine Boxing Federation (ABF), has said they will not penalise Luis Lazarte at all since there is no need for it.
Furthermore, he added that they do not care about the International Boxing Federation’s (IBF) rules, regulations, sanctions and other such aspects.
His comments came in reaction to the event that jeopardised not only the well-being of Luis’ Friday night opponent Johnriel Casimero but also tarnished the goodwill of the sport.
Luis and Johnriel were scheduled to take on each other in a 12-round brawl with the vacant IBF light flyweight gold for the grabs. Luis is the number one Argentinean light flyweight and is considered as a legend in his home country.
Luis, the number one Argentinean light flyweight, infamous as ‘El Mosquito’, was backed up by a huge crowd of supporters who gathered at the Club Once Unidos arena situated at Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina, to motivate and cheer for their number
one. However, unexpectedly the clash ended with riots.
Johnriel, on the other hand, was tense by the raging crowd who vehemently booed at the 22-year-old pugilist. This was not enough to derail the young lad’s determination to win the title and engrave his name on it. Casimero, renowned as the ‘Quadro Alas’
hails from Philippines, is the world number two light flyweight and was in Argentine for the first time in his career.
Amid this entire tense scenario, the former WBO light flyweight title owner gave a tough time to his 40-year-old veteran opponent Luis. In addition, he also experienced the dirty side of Luis by receiving a large number of illegal blows on either the back
of the head or below the belt, by absorbing the foul elbow hits to his gut and even took two to three bites on his shoulder.
All these aspects did not demoralise the young man and he was able to totally knock out Luis in the 10th round. As soon as the brawl ended, the anti-Filipino crowd became hostile and raided the ring. The riot was so much intense that even the referee received
a bruise on the lower lip and Johnriel’s corner man Sean Gibbons suffered a broken rib.
Despite Luis’ unethical and illegal game play, interestingly Bisbal is backing up his man. According to the comments put forth by Bisbal, “We laugh at the sanctions of the international organizations. They don't have any authority to do so [in Argentina].”
He further added that even the promoter Osvaldo Rivero will also not face any sanctions.
The current dismal attitude followed by ABF has definitely raised concerns and its negative aspects will be witnessed by the federation in the near future. At the moment no disciplinary action has been taken against Luis Lazarte.
