Otago and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 headed towards a draw in Plunket Shield match
The Plunket Shield match between Central Districts and Otago seems to be headed towards a draw after the end of the third day’s play. Otago scored 475 runs in their first innings and in reply, Central Districts ended the day at five wickets down for 156
runs. The match is being played at Mclean Park in Napier.
The first day was washed out due to rain and Central Districts Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Otago-c829 batsmen.
Otago’s Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Cumming-c1289 and Michael Bracewell gave a terrific start to their team as they constructed a solid century opening partnership. Bracewell was the first man to be dismissed after scoring 45 runs. He missed-out on a half-century, but his team
was in a very strong position at 129 runs for the loss of one wicket.
Cumming continued to play well and scored 93 runs. He was closing in on his century, but was undone by a good delivery from George Worker. The first-drop http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shaun-Haig-c2504 didn’t miss the opportunity and scored a brilliant century for his team. He got good support
from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Broom-c2090, who also constructed a century to dent the hopes of Central Districts.
The pair amassed a 151-run stand for the third wicket and took their team’s total over 300. Both scored 124 runs before they were dismissed. Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Derek-de-Boorder-c1359 capitalised on the start provided by his top-order batsmen and reached a steady
half-century, before the team declared on 475.
There wasn’t much assistance for the bowlers in the wicket, and they had to work hard for their wickets. However, Jeremy Kuru and Kieran Noema-Barnett took two wickets each for their team.
The start to the Otago innings wasn’t as good as they would have expected as they lost four wickets for just 56 runs. Openers Peter Ingram and George Worker were out after getting starts of 20 and 10 runs respectively.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Weston-c2674 rescued his team from disaster with some aggressive batting. He smashed 61 runs off just 54 balls. Noema-Barnett
offered some resistance as well, scoring 23 runs before he gave his wicket away.
Ian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Butler-c48850 bowled well and although he gave away a few runs, he took two wickets for his team. With only one day left in the game, a result is highly unlikely. However, anything is possible in cricket.
