Otago names six newcomers to squad for opening clash of ITM Cup against North Harbour - Rugby
Otago has named six fresh players in its side to take on North Harbour for the first match of the 2011 ITM Cup. The assistant coach of Otago, Andy Hunter, announced the team on July 13 and revealed that six players will be making their debuts in the upcoming match.
According to details, centre Ben Antiga, flanker Regan Tamihere, lock Daniel Ramsay and others will make their debuts for Otago. The Otago selectors have also introduced five new players to its bench. The five players, who will start for the New Zealand provincial side, include two back rowers and three forwards.
Making the announcement of the team roster, Otago assistant coach, Andy Hunter, said that both experienced and youngsters have been included in the side to attain best results in the tournament. He further said that, “There is some experience in there too and there were some difficult calls to make ... but with the intensity of the season not many players are going to be playing the full 80 minutes every week. We've got to make sure we have got enough players for the following week of games.”
Hunter told the reporters that the Otago officials are expecting a smooth game by the young players included in the side. He further said that they need to play according to the situation of the game, which will help them learn quickly.
Hunter also went on to say that, “We want to play a particular structure and getting the players skilled up with what their roles are within that structure. We're not asking players to do things radically different.”
Meanwhile, the North Harbour coach, Liam Barry, has announced a very strong side for the opening match of the tournament.
The ITM Cup is kicking off on July 14, in Carisbrook stadium, Dunedin. The Tournament consists of 13 rounds and each team will play one match in every phase. The final of the ITM Cup 2011 is scheduled to be played on Friday, September 2.
