Otago v Auckland – HRV Cup, 2012/13 – Match Update – Otago win by 13 runs
A steady all-round performance from the Otago Volts saw the team working their way up to a 13-run win over the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Aces in their match during the ongoing HRV Cup, played today on December 31 at the Queenstown Events Centre.
Otago won the toss and chose to bat first, but the earlier part of the team’s innings was far from reassuring. Michael Bates (4-1-31-2) took top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Broom-c2090 (14) made a swift
exit at the hands of Andre Adams, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NL-McCullum-c2120 was run out after a meagre 6-run contribution, leaving the Volts at 36 for 4 by the 9th over.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-de-Grandhomme-c51409 – however,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Neesham-c1697 found himself equal to the challenge, and in addition to contributing an individual score of 59*, joined ten Doeschate for a 103-run partnership for the 6th wicket, which got the team total from 53 to 156.
The final over, however, resulted in the both ten Doeschate and wicketkeeper skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Derek-de-Boorder-c1359 (1) being run out, and the Otago Volts ended by posting a final total of 157 by the end of 20 overs, at the expense of 7 wickets.
The Aces' innings started out in a somewhat similar manner, as the top and most of the middle order registered disappointing performances. Otago’s Jacob Duffy (4-0-21-4) remained on the prowl, and was aided by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Herbert-Frederick-Fuller-c65789, Jimmy Neesham, and Ryan ten Doeschate,
all of whom chipped in with one wicket each.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Cachopa-c51669 (43) made the most significant contributions, but
their sole efforts were not enough to enable the Aces to execute a successful chase.
Donovan Grobbelaar (10), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Bates-c1947 (2) all put forth average displays, and by the end of 20 overs, with 9 wickets down, the Auckland Aces had only managed to reach 144, with the Otago Volts going on to secure a
13-run win.
