Otago v Central Districts – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Update [Day 1] – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Otago-c829 going
Despite undergoing a flurry of falling wickets, the Otago Volts’ Ryan ten Doeschate remained fixed at the crease, and his unbeaten half-ton enabled the team to work their way up to 181 for 4 by stumps on the first day of their ongoing Plunket Shield match
against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 Stags, played at the University Oval in Dunedin today on December 17.
The Volts kicked the match off by choosing to bat first after winning the toss. Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamish-Duncan-Rutherford-c61359 was caught out by Stags skipper
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181.
Redmond finally found an able partner in number four batsman Ryan ten Doeschate, who remained unbeaten until the end of the day, and succeeded in bringing his individual total up to 88*. Both batsmen joined forces for a third-wicket partnership which yielded
127 runs, and got the team total from 15 in the 9th over, to 142 in the 35th.
The Stags bowlers remained powerless for the most part as Redmond and ten Doeschate furthered their partnership. Bevan Small and Roald Badenhorst proved the most expensive, failing to take wickets, and bleeding precious runs. Small leaked 33 runs in just
8 overs, while Badenhorst conceded 48 in 7.1.
AY Patel (11-1-42-2) managed a marginally better performance, and in addition to keeping his economy rate down to 3.81, also chipped in with 2 wickets. Redmond served as his first victim of the day, and found himself caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657
in the 35th over.
He was succeeded by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Broom-c2090, who chipped in with an individual contribution of 14 runs, in addition to joining ten Doeschate for a 32-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Their combined efforts got the team total up to 174, after which Broom fell prey
to Patel.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-Wells-c2422 (7*) was the next batsman to step up to the crease, and accompanied by the resilient ten Doeschate, brought the team's score up to 181 for 4 by stumps on day one.
