A century stand between Steven Croft and James Foster saw the Northern Districts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knights-c805 clinching a 24-run win over the Otago Volts in their HRV Cup match today on November 2, played at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
The Knights won the toss and elected to bat first, and despite the efforts of Otago’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Wagner-c79182 (4-0-39-3) and Jacob Duffy (4-0-32-2), the team managed to post a solid final total of 174 by the end of 20 overs.

http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Derek-de-Boorder-c1359 off Duffy in the 8th over. By this point, the Knights were at 42
for 4 – however, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Foster-c1644 (48) resuscitated the innings in a big way, setting up a massive 126-run stand for the 5th wicket.
Their efforts got the team up to 168 – however, the final over saw Wagner launching an impressive assault, claiming three wickets in the 20th over. Foster, followed by Croft, and then Corey J Anderson (6), were all caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Broom-c2090 off
Wagner in the final over, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northern-Districts-c825 posted a final total of 174 at the expense of 7 wickets by the end of 20 overs.
Despite valiant efforts from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamish-Duncan-Rutherford-c61359, Broom, and Neesham, however, Otago were unable to chase the target down effectively, and found themselves cut off at 150 by the end of 20 overs.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Gordon-Bracewell-c75912 (7) were both dismissed early on by Devcich (2-0-13-2), but Rutherford (47) and Broom (33) steadied the innings with a 65-run stand for the third wicket. Both were eventually dismissed in successive overs –
Broom by Anderson in the 14th over, and Rutherford via run out in the 15th – and while Neesham (36) and de Boorder (12) attempted to keep the momentum going, they were not entirely successful, dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graeme-Aldridge-c1502
respectively.
By the end of 20 overs, with 6 wickets down, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IG-Butler-c1575 (1*) at the crease, the Volts found themselves cut off at 150, with Northern Districts going on to claim a 24-run win.
