I'm going to be majoring in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and am 100% positive that I want to get some sort of professional/graduate degree to go along w/ my bachelors. There are a couple options I have been thinking about such as, simply continuing with a Masters in ChemE, applying to med school and possibly going into something like Radiology, maybe getting an MBA, or maybe even law school and becoming a patent attorney or something of the sorts. What I'm looking for is a combination that will provide the most career stability, a lot of opportunity to climb ladders, very good pay, and possibly even something enjoyable. I would greatly appreciate any input about the options I listed or if anyone can suggest anything else. Thanks!

  1. Wow, you have a ton of options.

Your BS in Chem E from the U of I will open a lot of doors for you, no doubt.

As for a Professional/Grad degree, it will depend on what you want to do for a career.  If you really enjoy engineering, then you might want to get the MBA or even a degree in Engineering Management.  I had a engineering manager during a co-op who had an masters of engineering management from a school in Michigan (may have been Michigan or State).

My advice is to focus on the UG degree right now.  About half way through your Jr. year, start your job search or grad school search.

Good luck, study hard, do well, have a great career!
