My cousin worked for an insurance company and i asked her to check my credit report for me so she checked it and printed it out for me and i looked at it and i saw my other family members are on my credit report. i called transunion and everything appear normal on their record and they said that the other two credit bureau could have made the mistake of mixing other people in my credit. I cant dispute the incorrect information unless i buy a credit report from equifax or experian. i was wondering has this happen to anyone if so is there anything i should do?

  1. Everyone is entitled to 1 free credit report per year from the 3 major credit reporting companies.  You go to www.annualcreditreport.com to get copies of these reports.  (By the way, not a good idea to have your cousin run your report)

When you get your free reports, then you go dispute anything that's wrong with whichever company's report it is on.  You will see all the information when you get your reports.

    Good luck.

  2. Order a credit report directly from each of the three credit bureaus. Otherwise they will not accept any dispute you make.

Never try to submit a credit report supplied to you from an outside agency

  3. Yeah, I wouldn't have your cousin run your report anymore, because it shows up that your credit report has been run.  If you try to really apply for credit, it will look like you've applied elsewhere and they might get suspicious you're running up many bills.

Anyway, I totally agree with the first answerer - go to www.annualcreditreport.com and you can get your credit report for free.  Get the two that you haven't already seen, and go through the dispute process with each of them.  Once they have researched everything, they will send you a notice of what they have found out and what they changed on your report.

Then, after a year has passed since you accessed your reports, get a different report every 4 months so that you can watch your credit picture over time.  For example, if in January, it's been a year since you ran all of the reports, go to www.annualcreditreport.com and get Experian.  Then in May, get the Equifax report, and then in September get the TransUnion report.  If anything fishy is going on, you should be able to catch it before the year passes.

Just remember to always get them from that site.  Other sites pretend you'll get a free credit report from them, but they always want you to sign up for some expensive service.  This site is the official free one that the government basically forced them to give to consumers every year.
