  1. Many things have evolved in the human body for their functionality.  For example, the respiratory surface (alveoli of the lungs) has been in-folded into the body to save water, but has high surface area for exchange of gases.  The cecum has been reduced, because we are omnivores, and don't eat much tough, hard-to-digest plant material.  Check out any decent human physiology book, like Vander et al. for lots more examples.
