Question:

Other names for Anaheim Peppers?

by  |  earlier

I live in Asia and want to make a Southwestern dish that includes hominy and Anaheim peppers. Do any of you know if Anaheim peppers are called by any other names? Especially if they're sold in Asia. I don't think they call them Anaheim peppers here.

Thank you!

  1. I would experiment with the local peppers. I bet there are tons more types of peppers there.  I found some new peppers on my last trip to the caribbean and I wish I could get them here. One type looked like habenero but was mild and almost like an Anaheim.  The hottest was a pencil thin one about 8" long.  So just go to the markets and explore..

  2. The red strain of Anaheims is also called chile Colorado. I hope this helps you!

  3. It is also known a Texas, or New Mexico chile when fresh, and a California or New Mexico chile when dried. It roasts wonderfully and is the kind most often found canned, roasted and peeled on the supermarket shelf.

Mild heat. Also known as California, long green chili, chilacate, chile college, chile de rista, chile verde, Chimayo and Hatch. It is usually medium green in color and has a long, narrow shape. The red strain is also called the chile Colorado.

  4. They are similar to "Anglo poblano" with a thinner skin, but it doesn't sound like something you find in Asia, sorry...
