Wing Chun is excellent for in-fighting up close and personal.

Another style of kung fu that excells in the stand up game is called: Chin Na

  2. I woudl stick with kickboxing or boxing.  The other styles will give you bad habits with low hands.

  3. CAPOEIRA + Jiu-Jitsu = bye, bye whomever

  4. Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Kyokushin or Shotokan karate.

Other lesser popular styles that do heavy sparring with kicks, punches, knees, and elbows. Lots of Okinawan based styles adhere to it.

To some extent even styles like k*k Sool Won, and other lesser known stuff is all good.

Reality is that as long as it is trained realistically, sparred hard, it can be of great help with stand up. Ideally you want something that is blended, meaning spends as much time on hands as kicks.

Hope that is of some help.

  5. There are alot. check out kung fu or tae kwon do. Ninjitsu is a form of grappeling usually done on your feet, its a lethal form if you can find someone to teach it. Muay Thai is a form of kick boxing. Savate is french kick boxing. What ever form you decides, know that most of them require you to be on the ground at some point.

  6. Wing Chun, Taekwando "traditional", Okinawan Karate, to any one of these you might want to add Akedo or Judo.

By the way any of these traditional arts taught well would include their own ground fighting and weapons training. I think once you become an expert at one it is a good thing to explore another art. My list is in my personal preference in strength of stand up techniques. I teach Taekwndo and it is my personal favorite; however I know in my heart Wing Chun is superior I have seen enough to say this with confidence.

  7. Mauy Thai, karate, TKD, american kick boxing, kung fu, hapkido, kali, way to many others too mention. It all depends on how good your instructor is and how well and realisticly you train.
