  1. Not many players now hit their 5 irons 225. Tiger says a soft 5 iron for him is 190, but sure he could probably bust it out to 240 if he wanted.

  2. I dont believe Jack hit those distances with a 5 iron but im sure those guys in the longest drive competition could probably wack one that distance.

  3. Trust me...Jack never hit a 225 yard 5 iron, unless it was downwind.

  4. NOT REALLY BUT I'VE GOT TO ADD SOMETHING HERE THATS VERY IMPORTANT. WHEN YOU HEAR AN ANNOUNCER SAY A PLAYER JUST HIT A FIVE IRON X AMOUNT OF YARDS REMEMBER THAT CLUB ISN'T NECESSARILY THE SAME LOFT AS A FIVE IRON FROM A SET YOU BUY OFF THE RAC AT YOUR LOCAL GOLF PRO SHOP OR RETAIL STORE. PLAYERS TWEAK THE LOFTS OF THERE CLUBS FROM 2 TO 10 DEGREES DEPENDING ON THE CLUB. SO DON'T BELIEVE IT WHEN YOU HERE SOMEONE HIT A 5 IRON 225 IT ACTUALLY COULD BE THE LOFT OF A THREE IRON.

  5. I don't think Jack hit any 225 five irons.  One of his most famous stories is the 1 iron he hit at the 17th at Pebble and though it was into the wind and downhill it only went about 210 or 220.  Arnie hit it about as far as Jack, and so did Jim Thorpe - but once again - it doesn't matter how far you can hit it, what matters is how many TIMES you hit it.
