  1. There used to be lots of republics declared by individuals but I am not sure if any are still current , it was popular in the 70s or 80s to declare a republic within the U.K. and other European countries , I don't think any are left though , interesting to know .

  2. the Republic of China (commonly referred to as Taiwan).

the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Western Sahara.

    the Republic of Kosovo.

the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

    Nagorno-Karabakh (Azerbaijan).

    Transnistria (Moldova).

    Somaliland (Somalia).

  3. There are several other countries which have declared independence (most of which are considered independent by a few countries) that are not considered autonomous by the entire international community:

•Somaliland, which has been disputed since 1991, is not recognized as separate from Somalia by any other country (including other unrecognized countries).

•Republic Nagorno-Karabakh, a region of Azerbijan, has been disputed since 1991 and is recognized only by the unrecognized countries of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Transnistria.

•Transnistria, which is a region of Moldova, has been disputed since 1990 and is only recognized by Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh, and South Ossetia.

•Kosovo, a region of Serbia which declared independence in 2008, is recognized by 46 countries, but according to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 remains part of Serbia.

•Republic of China (Taiwan), which was formed in 1949 after the Chinese Civil War, is recognized by 23 countries and has unofficial relations with many other countries.

•Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), also known as Western Sahara, is the southern portion of Morocco.  It has been disputed since 1976 and is recognized by 49 states and the African Union, but not by Morocco which claims the entirety of its territory. The SADR only controls Free Zone and a number of refugee camps in southwestern Algeria.

•Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), disputed since 1983, is only recognized by Turkey.

•Palestine, which has been disputed since 1988, is recognized as a proposed state by 96 UN member states but is not recognized by Israel, the United States, most Western European and Latin American countries, or the UN.

In addition, there are widely recognized states which remain unrecognized by a few:

•Lichtenstein refuses to recognize the Czech Republic or Slovakia due to a dispute over the applicability of the BeneÅ¡ decrees; the Czech Republic and Slovakia, in turn, refuse to recognize Lichtenstein.

•Turkey doesn't recognize Cyprus because of the disputed TRNC.

•South Korea and North Korea refuse to recognize each other.

•Israel has no diplomatic relations with 34 countries and is not recognized by 21 of them.

And just to fully answer your question, the following countries have active autonomist or secessionist movements:

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, People's Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (or Burma), Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Albania, Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, United States, Antigua and Barbuda, Haiti, Nicaragua, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Micronesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

    So basically everywhere!

  4. South Ossetia and Abkhazia are just regions of Georgia. That's the problem. I could add Chechnya and Kurdistan, except that most Brits seem to think that Kurdistan is situated solely in Northern Iraq.

Tibet, East Turkestan (the Chinese province of Xinjiang). There are probably some others.

  5. Limited or no recognition

    Somaliland

    Nagorno-Karabakh

    Transnistria

    Kosovo

    Republic of China (Taiwan) (ROC)

    Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)
