Other than for cooking, what else kunyit is used for?

The Indians use kunyit or tumeric on their faces.  It is also a popular ingredient in Indian medicine and Indonesian jamu, if I'm not wrong it has anti-bacterial and astringent properties.

The Javanese include tumeric for the body mask and scrub by mixing it with rice that has been soaked in water for days till it becomes powder, as the main ingredient for 'lulur'.  That's why we see the Javanese female court dancers have very smooth and fair skin thanks to the regular regiment using 'lulur'.

Another name for it is tumeric -

Cosmetic:  tumeric is used as a cosmetic during traditional ceremonies

Bruises, sprains and wounds.  tumeric blended with oil is applied topically

Cold: Tumeric boiled with milk and sugar and consumed orally.

Stimulating milk flow:   Poultice of tumeric is applied on the breast
