Ottawa Senators' captain Daniel Alfredsson fixated on coaching -NHL Update
There is no doubt in the fact that Ottawa Senators’ captain, Daniel Alfredsson, loves the sport of hockey with all his heart and soul, but playing just not might be something he wants to do anymore.
While there has not been any confirmation from his side whether the past 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season was his last or not, Alfredsson has become fixated with the idea of becoming a coach.
In a recent interview, Daniel Alfredsson hinted at not quitting hockey anytime soon after seeing how fans were desperate in their attempts to keep a part of hockey and that of the Ottawa Senators, he also suggested that seeing himself as a coach was not
hard to do either.
“I think I’d be both. I don’t see myself coaching too soon,” said Alfredsson. “I think it takes even more time at the rink than it does as a player to prepare (chuckles). Right now, I don’t think I’m ready for that.”
When you have been in the NHL for over 15 seasons, there is so much playing a person can do, but the love of hockey will not be letting Alfredsson leave anytime soon, instead, he wants to be a part of the strategic planning instead of being on the ice.
“But I like the strategic aspect of the game. I think I read the game really well. I try to talk to our coaches about things I’d like to see at times. I’m interested in how the coaches think. I like that part of it. So I think I’d be a bit of both types.
I think I can also challenge guys and motivate them in different ways,” Alfredsson added.
One thing that Alfredsson did make clear for all his fans was that he would not be retiring in the Swedish league, like many suspected, but instead, he wants to go out as a Senator.
There is no telling what Daniel Alfredsson will decide in the upcoming months of the offseason, but one thing is clear, whether or not we see him playing on the ice next season, there is a good chance he will be either behind the bench or at least somewhere
in the team’s front office.
