Ottawa Senators' captain Daniel Alfredsson honoured throughout All-Star Game Weekend -NHL Update
Participating in one of the most anticipated of the hockey year is always an emotional and special moment for each and every player, but this year, it was even more honorary for Ottawa Senators’ captain, Daniel Alfredsson, who received multiple standing
ovations and enjoyed the week of his life at the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game.
The Sunday night, January 29, 2012, All-Star Game might not have turned out in Alfredsson’s favour as opposing captain, Zdeno Chara’s team took the match, 12-9, but nevertheless, it was more than he could have hoped for.
For Alfredsson, the main objective of the game was not really as much winning as it was rather scoring and grabbing a hat trick for thousands of fans that showed up for the game in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
"It was a lot of fun, from start to finish," Alfredsson said. "I predicted before the game that (it would) pick up as we went on. I wanted to get one a bit earlier to get the crowd cheering a bit, but (Henrik and Daniel) Sedin served me up nice on the second
one -- open net. Overall, it was great to be out there with the other guys."
A number of players were having a good time not only participating in the game but playing alongside a future Hall of Famer like Daniel Alfredsson.
"He's a guy we've looked up to, even before we came over (to Canada). I was a little surprised. I've never been part of a reception like that and he's been here for a while, so I didn't know how much they appreciate him," said Vancouver’s, Henrik Sedin.
Players from around the league could not stop talking about how Alfredsson has motivated them to take their teams forward, something he has practically done so far after coming out of an injury riddled season and bringing Ottawa back into the top rankings
of the Eastern Conference.
Alfredsson is certainly feeling good about himself and his health, which is crucial for Ottawa’s survival in the season as it continues to progress with the playoffs coming closer day-by-day.
