Ottawa Senators' fans want Daniel Alfredsson to keep playing -NHL Update
Daniel Alfredsson can be regarded to be a major reason why Ottawa Senators were able to reach the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Quarterfinals and nearly eliminate top seeded New York Rangers.
With a captain of such calibre, who would want to see him go, which is why fans are trying to keep him not only in the league but on the Senators team whichever way possible.
Currently playing in the Hockey World Championship, Alfredsson might not know that fans are going wild back in Ottawa and are hoping that he plays again in the NHL with Ottawa, at least for another season.
“We realize and appreciate that Alfie will be the one who makes the ultimate decision on whether to play another season,” said a fan by the name of Tony Giampietro, in an interview with the Ottawa Sun. “Our goal is simply to demonstrate to him that Sens
fans still believe that he has what it takes to lead us to a championship.”
Giampietro is one of hundreds of fans trying different ways to let Alfredsson know that they want to see him play another season. Creating websites, signing petitions, updating their social media websites, fans are going to every limit to let their emotions
be known.
The 39-year-old captain is coming out of his 15th straight season in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators. There have been some rough patches for the veteran forward including a recent concussion scare that had him limited to just four out of seven
playoff games against New York.
Up until now, Daniel Alfredsson has played a total of 1,131 major league games and has a record of 1,082 points (416 goals, 666 assists), making his name prominent of the list of all time best NHL players.
There a number of reasons why Ottawa Senators fans want Daniel Alfredsson to continue playing because at the moment, they just do not see their team being playoff capable without him.
It is not hard to see why.
Missing 25 plus games during the 2010-2011 regular season, Ottawa ended as one of lowest ranked teams but a comeback the following year got them through. Senators need Alfredsson for now, but will he return is a question that is yet to be answered.
