Ottawa Senators’ Captain Daniel Alfredsson and President Cyril Leeder have different views on lockout
Daniel Alfredsson, a Swedish international ice hockey player and captain of Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL), believes that the lockout would not be ending soon and there would be no agreement between NHL and NHL Players Association (NHLPA).
On the other hand, Cyril Leeder, the President of the Senators’ team has expressed his feelings that there are some improvements and they could reach an agreement soon, which would result in beginning of NHL regular season in few days time.
In case there is no NHL this season, Alfredsson may well have played his last NHL game in the career because chances of him featuring in next season are very less, as he was already thinking about taking retirement this season.
The 39-year-old veteran, who has already played 16 seasons in the NHL, thinks that the solution would not be found out in a short time and they have been lockout for one whole, it did in 2004-2005 season, as he said,
“There’s no deal that’s going to be done in the short term here, so we’re looking at being locked out for a period of time, I think”.
If he has to play next season, he would have to play at the age of 40, which he turns in December this year. Although this is not the first time that he is experiencing a lockout, but he thinks that it was different before as he was just 32 years old then
but now he would be much older and would not be able to play season. But Gothenburg, Sweden native would love to back, as he said,
“I went through the lockout the last time (in 2004-05) and I’m a different stage of my career and I feel the same now as I did then. Even if this would turn out to be a whole season and I wouldn’t play again, that’s fine with me. I’m just a small piece of
the puzzle. But I’d love to play again.”
But the President has other feelings as he think that it would take long for NHL to begin once again and there is a lot of progress on the talks between NHL and NHLPA.
