Ottawa Senators Captain Daniel Alfredsson may sway Retirement after Experience -NHL Update
The Ottawa Senators may have been eliminated by Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 on Friday but that is not something captain Daniel Alfredsson is too tensed out about seeing how just a year back, the Canadian franchise
barely made the postseason and faced an early ousting.
During the 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, Ottawa was comfortable in seventh place as they worked hard to stay atop the playoffs division in the shortened season, while teams like Philadelphia
Flyers, New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning failed to muster enough points to advance.
A major fear of Ottawa fans was that they would be losing a captain like Daniel Alfredsson but it seems like the veteran may just not want to call it over just yet.
"All I can say is it's been a great year in terms of the group we've had, the adversity we've faced," Alfredsson said after being eliminated according to NHL.com. "We became a tight group and stuck together throughout.
It's been a lot of fun, so I'll definitely take that with me when I think about what to do."
This past hockey season was the last on Alfredsson’s contract with Ottawa, which was a four-year $19.5 million deal. According to Ottawa Senators’ head coach, Paul MacLean, Alfredsson will return for another
season, that is unless he has something other planned out or changes his mind later on this year. Whatever the situation is, fans should expect a decision in the weeks before the 2013-2014 NHL regular season is to kick off.
"I'm going to chat with Alfie in the next few days at our convenience," MacLean said. "For the first part we're going to talk about the year and how it went and what my thoughts are and what his thoughts are.
I don't expect him to make a decision like that in the next two days.”
Daniel Alfredsson, a 40-year-old native of Gothenburg, Sweden, was drafted by Ottawa Senators as the 133rd overall back in round-six of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Up until now, he has 1,178
games under his belt with 426 goals and 628 assists for a total of 1,108 points.
