Ottawa Senators Defenseman Jared Cowen out for 6-8 Months following Hip Surgery -NHL Update
In some disappointing news for the Ottawa Senators and fans, 21-year-old Jared Cowen will be out for at least six to eight months following surgery on his hip to repair a torn labrum, but is fortunately, expected to make a full recovery from the procedure.
“First of all, we’re very disappointed for Jared, because this was a big year for him to get more ice time, lots of playing time in Binghamton until we’re going to play in the NHL,” Senators general manager Bryan Murray said in an audio message provided
by the team.

“It’s quite a long-term injury. It appears that he would not be able to play at all this year, whether there’s games in the NHL or in the (AHL),” Senators GM Bryan Murray added. “That, in itself, is disappointing.”
The young defenseman was drafted as the ninth overall back in round-one of the 2009 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators and is yet to have a really breakthrough season in his career. He played his first game during the 2009-2010
regular season and had a bigger performance this past hockey year as the defender picked up 17 points, five goals and 12 assists in 82 games played.
Obviously, due to the surgery, the young defender will not be able to continue playing with the Binghamton Senators, the minor league affiliates in the American Hockey League (AHL), until he makes a full recovery.
Ottawa Senators were definitely giving him a much bigger role with more responsibility, but it seems like those plans have been put on hold ever since he had to go under the knife.
Jared Cowen is a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and is currently locked on with the Ottawa Senators with a three-year, entry-level deal that is worth a total of $2.7 million and will be making $1 million plus each year until it comes to an end
following the 2013-2014 regular season.
Updates should be expected in the next couple of days as his status is continuously evaluated by the team’s medical staff along official reports being released.
