Ottawa Senator’s GM Bryan Murray hopes Daniel Alfredsson will return - NHL Report
Daniel Alfredsson, a Swedish captain of the Ottawa Senators, of the Northeast division of the Eastern Conference in the National Hockey League (NHL) who has served them for last 17 years now.
Although he is getting old and would be turning 40 on the 11th of the December this year but Ottawa Senators’ General Manager, Bryan Murray, still is optimistic and hopes that Daniel Alfredsson would return for at least one more season and play
for Ottawa Senators.
Alfreddson, at the age of 39, had a brilliant season this year (2011-2012) as he scored 27 goals, gave 32 assists and scored total of 59 points. He had also scored two goals for Ottawa against New York Rangers in the first play-off round.
According to the GM, he has not asked Alfredsson yet whether he is going to quit or play anymore but he has his fingers crossed that Daniel Alfredsson would be there with him and rest of his other teammates when they return for the pre-season training later
on in September.
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, GM Bryan Murray said, “I have had a couple of conversations, one with Alfie about a week ago. Still no final decision on anything, but very definitely a good conversation, if I can say that. I'm just waiting to find
out for sure which way we are going to go.”
Daneil Alfredsson has been playing on the Ottawa Senators squad for 17 years now and has played more than thousand games, 1131 to be precise. In those games he has scored 416 goals and 666 assists, earning him total of 1082 points.
The captain has not only done well and achieved a lot for Ottawa Senators but also has a lot of contribution for his national side Sweden National Hockey Team. He is a gold medallist with Swedish team in 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games, two time silver medal
winner of Ice Hockey World Championships in 1995 and 2004, 2 time Bronze Medal winner in 1999 and 2001.
Murray knows that he is surely going to miss his captain but at the same time he is prepared if he does not return. 60 years-old Canadian coach said, "It's a tremendous hole if he doesn't play. But we're fine as far as having numbers."
