Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray officially hunting for Columbus Blue Jackets’ Rick Nash -NHL Update
Reports had emerged a few days earlier about Ottawa being in the race to acquire the top player up for grabs this 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) offseason, but general manager, Bryan Murray, officially came out on Friday, June 22, 2012, to let everyone
know that the Senators are ‘in talks’ to acquire Columbus Blue Jackets’ Rick Nash.
"I've talked to Columbus about him," Murray said prior to the NHL Entry Draft kicking off. "It's whether we want to go forward or not. But at the moment we're still talking."
For Murray, the obvious reason behind Rick Nash is making Ottawa a team that can put up a fight for the Stanley Cup, which is also something the Columbus Blue Jackets’ captain is leaving his team for.
"The hope is to be good next year," Murray said. "We can all say five years down the road we're going to be very good, but I'd like to be as good as we can be in the very near future. It doesn't change the process, but it hurries it up if we get an impact
player. "My job is to investigate every opportunity to get better."
When asked whether he had contacted the Anaheim Ducks for a disgruntled Bobby Ryan, Burray answered in the negative by terming it something he has not taken into consideration at all.
At the moment, it is clear that the Ottawa Senators want Rick Nash on their squad. Having Columbus Blue Jackets accept an offer is one thing while dealing with his huge $7.8 million a year contract for the next six seasons is also something they will have
to consider before making it official.
Nash would certainly boost the Ottawa Senators in each and every possible way with his 59 points (30 goals, 29 assists) last year in all 82 games. Those stats would make any team in the NHL drool and Ottawa Senators actually want to do something about that
desire.
Updates on the Ottawa Senators talking with Columbus Blue Jackets for a possible trade for Rick Nash should be expected in the upcoming weeks during the free agency.
