Ottawa Senators Prospect Stefan Noesen banned from World Juniors -NHL Update
The next most looked forward to event at the moment in the world of hockey is the World Junior Championships set to take off later this month, but unfortunately for Ottawa Senators’ prospect, Stefan Noesen, representing the United States this time around
is something he will just not be able to do.
Noesen, a 19-year-old native of Plano, Texas, United States, was declared by the International Ice Hockey Federation on Monday, that the youngster has been declared ineligible from playing in the championship due to him currently serving a suspension.
Playing for the Plymouth Whalers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), he was handed down a 10-game suspension for an illegal hit on Oshawa Generals player, Tyler h**e, during a game on December 8. Keeping in mind how Noesen will still have seven games to
serve outside of the matchup when the series kicks off, the IIHF decided to uphold the ban and notified USA Hockey as well.
Being a key member for the United States national team, the American authorities are looking to appeal the decision and keep in touch with members of the IIHF to work something out as they consider it to be “equitable”.
“While we respect the IIHF’s decision, we don’t feel the process is equitable,” Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey,’ said in a statement. “Moving forward, we’ll work with the IIHF and other federations to address the situation.”
Stefan Noesen is a 21st overall draft pick of round-one of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators and has yet to play in the major league. So far, he has spent the past three seasons with the Plymouth Whalers, with this one being the
fourth.
Last season was a breakthrough for him as the youngster potted 82 point (38 goals, 44 assists) in 63 games played. He is also on a three-year, entry-level deal at the moment, which gives him an annual minor league salary of $70,000.
Tuesday has been set for the U.S. team to exit from the country and head out to Finland, but now it is uncertain whether Noesen will be joining them or not and whether Team USA will be able to working some out in the next couple of days.
