Ottawa Senators’ Zack Smith signs a deal with Frederikshavn White Hawks in the Danish Hockey League
Zack Smith, a Canadian professional ice hockey player, who plays for Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League (NHL), became another Ottawa Senator’s player to sign a deal with the Danish Hockey League’s team by joining the Frederikshavn White Hawks.
The 24 year old forward, who plays as a centre, had a career best season in the last season of NHL by scoring 26 points in the 81 games. He went on to score 14 goals and 12 assists in those games. Whereas his performance in the playoff games was not very
prominent. He scored only one assist in the seven playoff games and failed to score any goal which gave him only one point.
But considering the fact he was able to find himself in the team during all seven games, it is clear that team had a lot of confidence in him and gave him chance every time. He was part of a Senators’ team that gave a very tough competition to the much stronger
New York Rangers’ side and took them to the wire by losing 4-3 in the overall Quarterfinal.
That was one of the main reasons that he was given a contract of four years by the Ottawa Senators’ management and also given an increment in the salary. He would be paid $7.5 million for the four year deal, which means a salary of $1.75 million every year.
The Danish team has revealed it on their website that the signing of the Canadian forward is based on the recommendation of another Ottawa Senators’ player Peter Regin. Regin is also from Denmark and used to play in the same league before moving to the American
league.
The Maple Creek, Saskatchewan native would be accompanied in the Danish league by another Ottawa Senators’ player, Colin Greening. 26 year old Greening plays for Aalborg in the Danish league and has been having a great time since joining them in October.
The centre has already scored nine goals and nine assists in the 10 games that he has played and has a total of 18 points. Another notable NHL name in the Danish league is Kevin Klein of Nashville Predators.
