Ottawa Senators aim to disappoint New York Rangers in Game 6 -NHL Playoffs Update
Seeing how Los Angeles Kings eliminated Vancouver Canucks before giving them a chance in Game 7, Ottawa Senators are bound to take the same path as New York Rangers are on the brink of elimination come Game 6 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley
Cup Eastern Conference Playoff Quarterfinal series.
Senators are hot at the moment despite being without captain, Daniel Alfredsson, to lead the way and showed exceptional form in Game 5 this past Saturday as Ottawa shutout the Eastern Conference’s top seed, New York, 2-0.
Ottawa is just more than focused on getting past New York, they see this series as a major hurdle to the Stanley Cup and something that will allow them a much easier time later on.
Despite their chances of being eliminated in the next game or two, Rangers are confident that they will not be going down that easy.
"Whoever is going to win has to win four," Rangers forward, Brad Richards, said, "and no one has done that yet."
New York will be getting back, Carl Hagelin, the rookie who went out with a three-game suspension after elbowing Alfredsson to the head, causing a concussion and his ouster from the series.
The forward is hoping that his return on the line-up could make the difference that New York is so desperately looking for now.
"I'm excited to get back," Hagelin said Sunday. "We're down 3-2. We want to get the next one, and that's the only thing on my mind right now."
Daniel Alfredsson was reported to have taken part in Sunday’s practice with the Senators, hinting at the possibility of his return in the crucial game, but there is still no confirmation on that as of yet.
"We're obviously going to wait until (Monday), but the way the last two days felt, I'm encouraged," Alfredsson told The Canadian Press.
While getting back a player, Rangers lost a pivotal forward, Brian Boyle, in their last matchup due to a concussion after Ottawa’s Chris Neil made a hit that sent the Ranger down and out.
"He's concussed and out," Tortorella said about Boyle, comparing it to Raffi Torres hit on Marian Hossa.
Phoenix’s Raffi Torres was awarded a 25-game suspension for his hit but Neil was lucky to not have been punished at all.
Game 6 is set to begin on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Scotiabank Arena in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, at 7:00 PM ET.
