Ottawa Senators aiming to stretch the winning run as Boston Bruins visit – NHL Preview
After recovering from their one of the most noticeable slumps, Ottawa Senators have done really well to progress and secure their place among the top eight teams of National Hockey League (NHL) Eastern Conference.
On the other hand, Boston Bruins, who are also well placed in the same conference, cannot be lauded as much as the Senators.
With both the teams in the comfort zone having a very little difference in the points, it will be exciting to see who overcomes who on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Scotiabank Place, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Here is a look at both the teams:
Senators
Early in the month, Senators snapped their seven-game losing streak, but lost another game after that victory.
However, they have played four games after that and have not lost any.
Their recent victims are Tampa Bay Lightning (4-0), Florida Panthers (6-2), New York Islanders (6-0) and Washington Capitals (5-2).
The scores indicate how well the defence is doing and that is certainly going to hurt Bruins.
Coach, Paul MacLean, defined team’s recent success as:
"We're getting contributions from everyone offensively and the structure of our team play has been very good and the attention to detail in the defensive zone is getting better. As a result our goals against is getting better, and we're creating way more
offense out of the way we play defence."
Senators are ranked at seventh spot in the Eastern Conference with 72 points after 62 games.
Bruins
Bruins are ranked at second spot in the Eastern Conference with 75 points after 59 games.
Bruins are presently on a six-game road trip in which they have already played five games and could only win two.
They are hoping to end the trip on a positive note, but for that they need to learn from their mistakes.
In the last game, they lost against Buffalo Sabres in a low-scoring matchup and the game was decided after the shootout.
However, Bruins’ coach, Claude Julien, was pleased to see the players battling hard. He said:
"Maybe not back-to-back wins, but back-to-back good efforts. I thought we really played well in the third, I thought we took it to them."
Predictions
Senators might win the game.
The sum of goals scored by both the teams might stay under six.
If Bruins win, the goal difference will be less than two.
