Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson not optimistic about series and future – NHL news
Daniel Alfredsson is not someone who easily gives up, but so far in the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoff Semifinals against Pittsburgh Penguins, he does not seem so optimistic about the Ottawa Senators rebounding or about his future
in the game as a matter of fact.
Losing as badly as they did in Game 4 with a 7-3 difference and now having to go back to Pittsburgh for what might be there final game of the postseason, Alfredsson seems to have lost hope in the series and is not confident about whether he will continue
post-playoffs when it comes to professional hockey.
“Probably not,” Alfredsson said, according to NHL.com. “[Pittsburgh's] depth and our play right now … it doesn't look too good.”
“When you look at what we did, it wasn't good enough. Does that mean [Pittsburgh] was good? Did we make them good? Who really cares? From our point of view, we didn't manage the puck [well], we didn't execute our passes, and subsequently, we got punished
in the neutral zone. We turned way too many pucks over and gave them some freebies. It would have been nice to have the lead for a little bit longer, but now we're back on our heels again. We didn't shut them down when it matters,” he added.
Ottawa was ahead of Pittsburgh when the first period came to an end but in the next 40 minutes of regulation, only Daniel Alfredsson was able to get a goal and that too in the final moments after the Penguins had taken a 7-2 lead.
The 40-year-old was not confident about playing in this past season and might not be about the next, but seeing his health and playing capabilities, experts are suggesting he has at least another season left in him.
Having been drafted by the Ottawa Senators as the 133rd overall during round-six of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Alfredsson has managed to gather up 1,178 points, which 426 of those being goals and 682 assists.
For now, nothing can be said about what will happen in Game 5, but Ottawa fans are definitely hoping for a miracle.
