Ottawa Senators comes up with another surprising 2-1 win against Tampa Bay Lightning - NHL Updates
Tampa Bay Lightning played host to Ottawa Senators at the St. Pete Times Forum. The game was another one of the Friday’s one sided games on paper with Lightning expected to come up with a dominating performance and winning the game.
Senators, on the other hand, are in the last position in the Eastern Conference and a win for them would be more than a consolation.
Senators were strong in the first period and deservingly scored the lone goal during the 20 minutes of play to lead as the teams went into the break.
Senators started off the second period in spectacular fashion as they managed to score again and led by two goals as the final period started.
Though Lightning scored early in the final period, it was of no use as they couldn’t score any further goals.
In the end, Senators won the game by 2-1.
Curtis McElhinney, goalie of Senators, was named the star of the game as he made 34 saves during the game.
The game started off in a slow manner with things heating up as time passed.
Senators created chances for themselves and their passing got better and better. The amazing thing about their play was the accuracy with which they were playing whether it be play construction or shooting.
Senators with some strong plays managed to score in the 11th minute through Jason Spezza from a brilliant backhand shot during power play to get into the lead.
The goal didn’t stop both teams from attacking as they continued with their attacks.
However, no further goals were scored as the period ended with Senators leading 1-0. During the course of the period, Senators made 10 shots on goal while Lightning made 6 shots on goal.
The second period saw Senators making a brilliant start to the game as they managed to score in the very first minute through Bobby Butler from a well placed to double their advantage.
Lightning, during this period, was much betters as compared to last period as they came up with strong plays as well.
However, they didn’t score any goals as the period ended with Senators leading 2-0. During the period, Senators made 8 shots on goal while Lightning made 9 shots on goal.
The final period was totally dominated by Lightning and they were able to score in the third minute through Martin St. Louis during power play to cut the lead to a single goal.
Their defence was also brilliant but they weren’t able to capitalise from all this as the period and the game ended with Senators winning by 2-1.
The final period saw Senators making just four shots on goal while Lightning made 20 shots on goal.
