Ottawa Senators defenseman Chris Phillips remains optimistic about CBA talks -NHL Update
Looking at how the current situation has played out to be at the moment between the league and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), it would be hard for anyone to term that things are going in the right direction, but Ottawa Senators
defenseman, Chris Phillips is still optimistic and confident that things will turn out right in the end.
He is part of the union’s negotiating committee and has hope that both sides will eventually be working out their differences, not only for themselves but also for the millions of fans around the world that have made hockey part of their daily lives.
“We’re moving in the same direction, which is good,” said Phillips, according to prohockeytalk. “I’m hopeful. We’ll see how things progress. We’re starting to speak the same language and that makes things a lot easier to come to an agreement.”
This past Friday, September 1, 2012, there was more than enough visibility of how a potential lockout could come through and it certainly does have a lot of people associated with the league depressed in various conditions, but keeping his head up is the
only thing Chris Phillips can do at the moment.
There are less than two weeks remaining till the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) comes to an end and it definitely does not look like both sides will reach a mutual understanding and sign a new labour contract before then.
It is believed by many, according to TSN’ Darren Dreger, that currently, nothing more than simple talks and showing off is going on between the two sides along with regarding the first 10 days to pass by without any significant changes. He regarded September
10th to be the date when both stakeholders will remember what they have to lose and gain from a new labour deal and could actually work that out in those few days.
Some news should certainly be a happy moment for fans but a lockout can still not be ruled out in any case. Updates on the issue should be expected in the upcoming days as the sides continue to meet.
