Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen looking forward to AHL in case of Lockout -NHL Update
Should there be a lockout for the 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, Ottawa Senators’ defenseman, Jared Cowen, will be staying put and continue to fine tune his abilities by taking a small step backwards, in the American Hockey League
(AHL).
While many other players who are on a one-way contract with their major league franchises will have to negotiate with minor league teams if their looking for some time there later on in the year, Cowen already has made arrangements since his contract is
a two-way deal and allows him to play in the minors.
Some of his teammates from the Senators club are already planning on heading out of the country and availing the foreign leagues, which are running in full mode, Cowen might have the time to shine but is not happy about the fact that his major league club
will have to split up.
"That's a (crappy) thing about the lockout," said Cowen, according to the Calgary Sun. "It's things you have to go through, though ... it's just something you have to deal with, and I guess I'm just thankful I can play somewhere, I don't have to go to a
different continent. That's not a bad thing. Something you just have to take in stride.”
2011-2012 was Jared Cowen’s first, full season with the Ottawa Senators in the North American major league as he picked up 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists) and as looking forward to the next hockey season, but unfortunately, it looks like the young defender
will have to wait it out as the league and Players’ Association continue their battle over a new collective bargaining agreement.
"I just want to play. Seems like I've been waiting for a long time now," Cowen added in his first Ottawa interview after what he called "the longest summer" he's had in a while,” Cowen added.
Seeing the youngster develop after he was picked up as the ninth overall back in 2009 NHL Entry Draft by Ottawa Senators has been exciting so far and now in the minor leagues, he just might show his teammates a thing or two he has learned in the major league.
