Ottawa Senators sign their first round pick, 18-year-old Cody Ceci in an entry-level deal
Cody Ceci, a Canadian professional defenseman, who was selected 15th overall in the first round of the 2012 NHL draft by Ottawa Senators of National Hockey League (NHL), has now been signed by them in an entry-level deal for three-years.
The deal was announced on Thursday, whereas the financial terms of it were not disclosed by anyone according to the team’s policy.
The 18-yearold blue liner has been playing Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for some years and showed performances which helped him in getting the attention of Senators and eventually a contract.
Talking to the Ottawa Sun, son of Parri Ceci, former National Football League player, told that it was a dream come true because every child dreams to play NHL. He has already been drafted, also signed a contract and now only third and the last step is left,
which is playing the game. He is only worried about making his place in the team as he said,
"It’s every kid’s dream to play in the NHL. The first step was getting drafted, the next step was to sign the contract and now I just have to worry about making the team."
Bryan Murray, general manager of the Ottawa Senators is also looking to give Ceci the opportunity and would try him in the training camp. He thinks that his new signing is a candidate for a place in the starting line up as said while talking to Ottawa Citizen,
"We’re going to give him an opportunity in our training camp to perform and hopefully compete for a job with our team, and we’ll let him basically decide his fate in that position. We know he’s a guy that will be a real serious candidate."
The 6-foot-2, 209 pounder, Orleans, Ontario resident has represented Team Canada in the under-17 and under-18 world junior championships and has been playing for Ottawa 67's in OHL for last three years. Last year was his best in the league as he scored 60
points in 64 games by scoring 17 goals and 43 assists. In total he has played 196 games in the league and scored 30 goals, 76 assists for total of 106 points.
