Ottawa Senators win 1-0 against the Toronto Maple Leafs after shootout
The second game of Monday was hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs as they were up against the Ottawa Senators at the Air Canada Centre. Both teams played the 59th game of their respective season. The Senators are bottom of the Eastern Conference
and aren’t in a position of making it into the play-offs.
On the other hand, the Maple Leafs in the running for the play-offs. However, things turned out to be different on an unpredictable Saturday which saw the Senators come up with a decent performance. The teams were level on score at the end of the regulation
time so the game went into overtime. During overtime no goals were scored but the Senators notched up the win after shootout. Craig Anderson, goal keeper of the Senators was named the star of the game as he made 47 saves during the game.
The Senators were quick out of the blocks and made a couple of shots on goal early on. However, this is all that they could managed as after this it was all about of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs not only dominated the possession but their passing
and shooting were brilliant.
The Maple Leaf’s defence was also superb in the opening period as they cut down any attacks that could have resulted in the opposition scoring. The period moved on with the Maple Leafs playing with a smooth flow but they weren’t able to score any goals.
This continued till the very end of the period as Craig Anderson making fabulous saves throughout the period.
The period ended goalless with the scored deadlocked on 0-0. During the course of the first period, Maple Leafs made 13 goal attempts while the Senators made 5 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Senators coming out a little better than the previous period but still they couldn’t keep pace with the Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs came up with some decent pieces of play that saw them coming across scoring chances every now and
then.
The Senators also came up with a few shots in between but weren’t successful in finding the back of the net. It looked as if the Maple Leafs would score in the dying stages of the period but the goal keeper of the Senators was up to the task once again stopping
each and every shot.
The period ended with the scores on 0-0. During the second period, the Senators made 10 goal attempts while the Maple Leafs made 17 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play were no different from the first two periods. However, the Senators were able to neutralize the attacks made by the Maple Leafs by attacking themselves. However, the Maple Leafs defence was very well organized and didn’t come
across any threats from the opposing offence.
The final period ended with the scores still level on 0-0. As a result, the game went into overtime but no goals were scored during the overtime as well. However, during shootout Jason Spezza’s goal won the game for the Senators.
