Ottawa Senators win 2-1 against the Florida Panthers in an intense matchup between the two teams
Both of the league strugglers in the season so far were in action as Florida Panthers played host to Ottawa Senators at the Bank Atlantic Center.
The game was important for both teams as they looked to gain confidence as their chances for qualifying for the play-offs are all but over.
The game started on the slower side for both teams as they looked to score but were not able to find the back of the end. The first period ended goalless and the second one no different.
There were several chances for both teams to score but they couldn’t and the final period started on level terms.
However, the Senators bagged two goals in the final period with the Panthers also scoring once to win the game 2-1 in the end.
Goal keeper of the Senators, Craig Anderson was named the star of the game as he made 33 saves during the course of the game.
The first period kicked off with both teams making a cautious start after with the Panthers starting to get strong. However, the Senators had other things in mind as they start to come up with some strong plays as well.
Their passing and shooting got better and better with the passage of time and they created loads of chances for themselves.
Unfortunately, despite some easy scoring chances coming their way neither of the teams were able to find the back of the net. The period ended with the scores level on 0-0 as the Panthers made 7 shots on goal during the period while the Senators made 14
shots on goal.
The second period was more of an evenly matched contest with both teams coming up with shots every now and then. However, the difference was the fact that they didn’t wait to make attacks this time and right from the started were on the hunt for goals.
The shots on goal kept on being fired but the story remained the same as no goals were scored. The second period saw the Panthers making 11 shots on goal while the Senators made 12 shots on goal.
However, neither off the 23 shots on goal found the back of the net as the period ended with the scores still deadlocked on 0-0.
The final period had both teams attacking from the start once again and it was the Senators who scored in the 12th minute through Erik Karlsson from a well placed flick shot to get into the lead.
Senators kept on attacking and managed to score once again with Karlsson scoring once again.
Panthers managed to bag a goal in the 16th minute through Clay Wilson but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Senators winning the game 2-1 in the end.
