Ottawa Senators win second in row winning 5-1 against the Florida Panthers
The second game of Wednesday was the Ottawa Senators playing host to the Florida Panthers at the Scotiabank Place.
This was one of the important games for the Florida Panthers which they needed to win if they wanted to keep hopes of a play-off alive.
However, things turned out to be totally different as the Senators came up with a decent performance that saw them being the more productive of the two sides.
This resulted in the Senators winning the game 5-1 in the end.
Bobby Butler of the Senators was named the star of the game as he scored two goals during the game.
After a slow start, both teams caught pace and with the passage of time they got better and stronger.
Though early on they have good decent scoring chances, they failed to find the back of the net. Some brilliant pieces of play were seen developing for both sides but no goals were scored during the first half of the period.
Bobby Butler scored the opening goal in the 12th minute from a superb backhand shot to put the Senators in the lead.
The period continued with both teams coming up with some brilliant shots on goal. The period ended with the Senators making 11 goal attempts in the period while the Panthers made 7 goal attempts.
The Senators started off stronger in the second period and came across a power play early. The Senators used it to the fullest and scored in the very first minute through Ryan Shannon from a powerful strike to double the lead.
The period continued with both teams firing and it was the Panthers who responded this time with a goal in the 5th minute. The goal was scored by Chris Higgins from a quick fired shot that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
Both teams kept on attacking and the offence got better and better with the passage of time.
However, it was the Senators who scored once again in the 11th minute through Butler once again. This time he scored through a powerful strike flying into the back of the net.
The period ended with both teams making a few more goal attempts but the scores didn’t change as the Senators led 3-1 at the end. The Panthers made 9 goal attempts in the period while the Senators made 8 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Panther making a decent start. However, they weren’t able to capitalize from the start as the Senators took over and dominated the period. Their defence and offence were both very strong.
Consequently, the Senators scored two goals as the period neared its end to come up with a comfortable win in the end. The first of the two goals was scored by Milan Michalek in the 17th minute while the second was scored in the 19th
minute by Jason Spezza.
The period and the game ended with the Senators making 15 goal attempts in the period while the Panthers made 8 goal attempts. The Senators emerged as 5-1 winner of the game in the end.
