Ottawa Senators wins 2-1 against New York Rangers after a shootout as spoilers
One of the interesting games of Thursday turned out to be Ottawa Senators winning 2-1 in a shootout against New York Rangers at the Madison Square Garden.
The game was one of those games where one team was playing the spoiler, Ottawa Senators, while the other was looking to score and keep their spot in the playoff’s cut.
The game started off with both teams making a decent start which saw them both bagging a few shots on goal. However, they weren’t able to find the back of the net and the first period ended with the scores level on 0-0.
The second period saw both teams coming out strong and it was Senators who scored to get into the lead.
The final period began with Rangers scoring the lone goal to level the scores. Both teams were evenly matched and there were no further goals during the final 20 minutes of play.
The game went into overtime but no goals were scored but the Senators won the game 2-1 after a shootout.
Craig Anderson, goalie of Senators, was the star of the game as he made 29 saves during the course of the game.
The game began with both teams reluctant to go on attacks. However, they grew in confidence with the passage of time and they managed to create quite a few scoring chances for themselves. However, both the teams failed to find the back of the net.
It looked as if Rangers would most definitely score a goal in the 11th minute but the shot went just wide off the target.
Despite the numerous shots made by the teams in the period, the score was 0-0 at the end of the period. During the course of the period, Rangers made five shots on goal while Senators made 7 shots on goal.
The second period saw both the teams coming out strong and attacking right from the word go and came up with very strong passing every now and then. The period saw quite a few shots on goal by both teams.
It took sometime but the first goal was scored in the 16th minute by Ryan Shannon in favour of Senators.
Rangers came up with some strong shooting but they failed to capitalise and the period ended with Senators leading 1-0, with both teams making 9 shots on goal during the period.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams making 10 shots on goal but it was Rangers who scored in the third minute through Brandon Prust to level the scores. The scores remained on level terms till the end of the period.
The game went into overtime but no goals were scored. However, Senators came up with a shocking 2-1 win after the shootout.
